Perspective

We were walking,
Me and the sculptor.
We kept walking,
Me and the sculptor.
“Did you see that”?
He asked me with joy
“Yes, I do see, it’s a rock”
“Just need to clean it..,
it’s really beautiful..
Wait..”, he added.

Took out the tools and
He started cleaning it.
The last sand fell
From the hourglass...
“WOW it’s really fantastic”
I said looking at the sculpture
“Sorry, I could not see it”

"It was just hiding, just
Hiding within the rocks"
He smiled at me with
Sparkles in his eyes.

MJ

Mikaeel Jackson (or Michael Jackson) passed away, the other day. I wanted to write a blog the moment I came to know about his sad demise. But then this confusion about the cause of death came. Then I thought I better write once the cause of death is found out. But even after two days, the real cause of death is unknown and his body might undergo a second post-mortem. So..

If I ask myself (since nobody asked me so far) who was the first western singer known to me, it is MJ (I am not considering the band names).

The other day, I watched a TV programme on life after death. There was a street interview too as part of it. That is, they randomly asked people on the road (USA) to comment on it. I remember what one person said:

“I think it is just the beginning…”

I wish MJ all the best and happy journey…

He is my all-time favorite singer and dancer. But what can we learn from him, other than dance and music?

What do his children going to inherit? A $500 million debt?
Drugs are killer stuff for real?
How not to spend money?
What not to keep as a pets?........

Well, I guess we can learn many things..

Sleep, Meditation, Sprituality and Bhajan

Last month, I wrote about Sleep-Meditation-Spirituality connection. It was just s some glimpse of thoughts on that topic. Happy to see that, at least some people showed interest in that subject.

http://theworldofjayaram.blogspot.com/2009/05/sleep-meditation-and-spirituality.html

As I mentioned in that blog, it all depends on what exactly one wants to achieve through meditation. These days, most of the people who turn into meditation are looking for a way to de-stress. If that is the case, there is nothing wrong in falling asleep while meditating, though meditation is NOT falling asleep or sitting alone and day-dreaming. This is because, meditation can offer a deeper sleep and in most of the cases, one might have already ‘almost’ emptied the mind before falling asleep and that helps a lot to de-stress.

What if those who ‘really’ want to meditate but could not coz of sleep issue? There still is hope (yes, never give up!)That is one reason to suggest to sit in a yoga posture (like padmasan – lotus posture), which is not comfortable or easy. Some Buddhist monks keep their eyes only half closed while meditation. This too helps. But this time, am NOT talking about ‘how not to fall asleep while meditating’. It’s something else this time.

Singing bhajans (devotional songs/church songs etc) is not a 100% religious act. It has some spiritual extension too. Mata Amrithanandamayi, has put this in a very simple but beautiful way.

"……..to gain concentration in this age of materialism, bhajan is easier than meditation. By loud singing, other distracting sounds will be overcome and concentration will be achieved. Bhajan, concentration and meditation, this is the progression. In fact, constant remembrance of God is meditation. Children, bhajan sung with one-pointedness will benefit the singer, the listener and also Mother Nature. Such songs will awaken the listeners minds in due course.

If bhajan is sung without concentration, it is a waste of energy. Bhajan is a spiritual discipline aimed at concentrating the mind on one's Beloved Deity. Through that one-pointedness, one can merge in the Divine Being and experience the Bliss of one's True Self. It does not matter whether one believes in Krishna or Christ, Mother Kali or Mother Mary; a formless God or even a flame, a mountain or an ideal such as world peace can be meditated upon while singing. By letting the mind expand in the sound of the divine chanting, each one can enjoy the peace born of one's inherent divinity."

Nuke the Recession !

It looked like I was going through a bad time. May be because of that mindset, most of the contemporary news I read/listened/saw weren’t good for the peace of my mind. Violence against women is one of the ‘bad’ news which I do not like. Killings in the name of religion/faith have become daily news these days. Recession did not affect them. Why?

What is recession? There could be many definitions from the economist point of view. Many a times it’s a psychological phenomena that affect our society and not lack of money or work. My wife received a salary cut and at the same time sits with lots of work. The funny part is they need more people too. Banks will soon come out with their quarterly statements and I am sure that there will be hardly any of them which would show loss. In fact, banks around me started issuing new housing loans. So, from where dose this recession started? The United States?

I asked some U.S. people and they said they are feeling the recession. In California, the 'terminator' governor even terminated text books in the name of cost cutting. So, naturally this should mean that there is not enough funds in that country, isn’t it so?

The Obama lead U.S government decided to increase the economical aid to Pakistan. Every year they will give $1.5 billion (per year for the next 5 years) to Pakistan. That’s something very interesting. Ever heard of a country facing financial crisis financially helping people of other countries? WOW ! what a humanitarian act !!

It was confirmed that most of the funds which US gave to Pakistan in the name of economical support and for fighting terror were used to acquire weapons against India (and still India call US as their ally). Every one of us knows that Pakistan is world’s terror hub and US is the numero uno State terrorist (after destroying Vietnam and Iraq, now they are after Iran).

(There is something interesting here. The terrorist’s preferred weapon is AK-47. And the manufacturer of that rifle say they sell it based on proper documents. Only companies/agencies of proper credibility can acquire the gun from the manufacturers. This clearly means there are some governments behind it. who are they?)

Did I go off track? Nope

I was talking about the news around me. Today I saw/listened FUNtastic news. One Al Qaeda (the Bin Laden gang who did the twin tower attack) leader openly said that they will acquire the Nuclear weapons held by Pakistan and use it against US.

When India went nuclear, for own safety, there were sanctions. India is an all time peace loving country (those who doubt, check out country’s history for the past 10,000 years or so). Since very long time, we raised the concern of Pakistan nukes falling into the hands of terrorists. But who listens?

Looks like Laden’s men have real guts …

Jay goes Jakarta?

Last weekend, I visited my wife’s one of the colleagues. They were living some 10 km away. Usually, when we visit somebody, we carry some gift (mostly sweets). We stopped at a mall near that guy’s house to buy some sweets. At the entrance there were some guys holding some ‘lucky coupons’ and asked us to fill it up and drop it in a box. I did not fill it properly (left work and income related questions).

Yesterday night, I got a call from somebody:

“Can I speak to Mr.Jayaram?”

“Yes, speaking”

“Sir, did you drop a lucky coupon in at the < > mall?”

“Yes, I did”

I thought he wanted me to provide further information, but

“Your coupon won the contest and we are offering a trip to Indonesia or Goa or Kerala”

“Thank you…but is there any conditions apply?”

I was suspicious.

“The only condition is that this is only for couples and hence you must come with your wife to collect the prize, tomorrow at 3 pm. You have to attend a programme here which will take about one hour. Can you make it?”

“Yes, I think I can”

My wife was sitting in the same room when I was speaking to that guy. So, she asked, what it was. I told her the story and she said sarcastically:

“I am not coming and you take some other lady with you, if you want”

Yes, it was a working day and she can’t make it, actually I forgot that when I made such a commitment to that guy who called me. Wife doesn’t really believe in this contest and she thinks there is some catch. I don’t know..

Today morning, that guy called me up again to confirm my presence and I said:

“Sorry, I will not be able to come with my wife”

He said if I want, I can send a couple of my choice to receive the prize (and they need to travel not me).

What is real and what is not?

After the shower (yes, I shampooed my hair), I stood in front of the mirror and it looked like I have lots of hair on my head. And I told myself:

“Man, it can’t be real, can it?”

The unborn world

"I am not the body, nor does the body belong to me. I am not a being, I am solely myself. This was my bondage that I eagerly desired to live.

Oh, in the boundless ocean of myself as the winds of mind arise, manifold worlds quickly appear as its waves."

Two Meals and a Demo

8-Jun-09

Two ‘special dishes’ became a news, last week, and awareness programme.

On was snake bitten chicken. Yes, the chicken is killed by allowing a poisonous snake to bite it. There were protests by animal rights people for using such a crude method for killing the chicken. But as usual, who listens? People even killed magnificent tigers just to eat their paws.

The second was bit exciting. It was not meat, but sweets. There wasn’t anything special about how the sweets were made but the all the excitement was about how the sweets were served. It was presented on the naked body of a beautiful woman ! I bet that the show got sold out well in advance…

How can we make people around us aware of our environmental issues? Last week witnessed such an awareness programme. The members of a particular organization drove bicycles. The specialty of this cycle ride was that they weren’t wearing any cloths. It was conducted by an international organization (of nudists? / Exhibitionists? I guess so, or at least they have such a mindset) who do awareness/protests by going naked in cycles. It happens only in ‘civilized’ and ‘developed’ countries. If anybody thought “hey, let’s spoil the environment so that we can see more such awareness”, its very very bad, I can tell you that…

I want new modem

God,

Why should I tell you the details? I know that you know every detail of it. Just want to remind you one thing. My internet issue is not yet resolved, even after 12 days. Please do the needful to issue me a new modem, immediately. You will, wont you? well, I know YOU WILL…

love,

me

Thinking June

A growing wiser lesson

June is the time to learn new lessons. For some, it is their first lesson, for some it is the second or third, fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh, eighth ….so on and so forth

June is the nick name of one of my e-buddies. May be she got named that way by her parents coz she was born in the month of June. I guess so. I never asked…

After all, who bothers to give me a reply these days? It looks like people are growing wiser day by day, in many different ways…

When the ‘growing wiser’ thing came to my mind, suddenly, one recent incident comes into my mind. That is a birthday story of another e-buddy.

Yes, we all grow every year. That growth is not happening on a yearly basis, but the process is happening every moment, though we may not feel it every moment (our brain/mind need at least a night’s sleep to rearrange such stuffs, in most of the case (except for shocks/traumas). We are not the same we the next moment. If there can be anything that does not change, it is the change.

I told her that our birthday, a single day, all of a sudden reminds us a year’s growth. I guess she is one of the brightest kids (she is at least 23 years younger than me) I have come across recently. So, I wished her:

“I want you to grow wiser by a year”

I don’t know why, but when I was wishing her, I asked her to keep her old buddies…

I expected a ‘thank you’ for wishing her on her birthday. But she did not, though we were in good terms.

Here, in this part of the world, we ask our kids to respect their teachers and elders. (Most of the present day teachers (at least in my State) are not eligible to share the teacher tradition we had long time ago, I understand that. Some are busy planting the seed of their political ideology in young minds….some are after planting the tree of religion…some are busy giving special tuitions at their home…Some are just there to tell the society that I have a job). It’s part of our tradition, respecting the elders. I still see something going on with people of my age. If we happened to (accidently) touch our feet on an elder person, we touch them with our hand and then touch our heart /chest (why heart? It’s the ‘God is love-heart is love’ connection).. It is a symbolization of seeking forgiveness or even seeing God within...

I think I lost somewhere….

Yes, a ‘Thank you’ could have made the situation look decent or at least normal. It was a birthday, and I wished a happy birthday…After all, we say a lot of ‘Thanks’ and ‘Excuse me’, though we really don’t mean it, don’t we?

Growing wiser has many flavors…

More Lessons

June asked the kids to buckle up and get ready. June pushed open the school doors. It brought rains, moisture filled hugs, winds and Goosebumps, just like any other June.

It also brought cold and coughs...

I too learnt a couple of new lessons when June opened the schools.

A single mosquito taught me playing with mosquito repellent sprays can be dangerous to health. Unstoppable sneezing can lead to rupture of blood capillaries in the throat and nose area (we can confirm this when we finally get the taste of our own blood). That makes us more prone to infections depending on the circumstances..if we were ‘almost there’ before we start a sneeze marathon, we will ‘land there’ once the vampire act is over…

It was a good one; a touching one coz the teacher even gave her life for it…

Thanks! But spare me next time…

Then..

“You look very fit”

I have heard many people say this to me (well, celebrities are used to such things; can’t help it – wink)

“Look, swimming is good for you. It is a very good general exercise and it fits into your requirement..and it has less chance for injuries..”

Some people might have heard this from me too.

Though it was a May affair, it was June that revealed that I managed to injure one of my tendons, while swimming.

“What went wrong?”

“Wrong? Me? I was …you know…I mean…hem hem…just giving a live demo to show that even swimming can result in injuries, that too in a very silly way”

See, June always give us lessons..

The Time Wheel that repeated History

The Jupiter completed one more circle…

I was going through my ‘To Blog’ folder and saw many unfinished ‘stuffs’. When I read some of my unfinished poems, it made me laugh (well, at least smile) coz I felt it nonsense or stupid.

It is like that. When we look at our past, we might think we did many silly/stupid/nonsense things. Some of our talks with our then friends, some of our expressions, some of our acts and deeds…from a little serious to too silly thing (that we enjoyed that time) might look nonsense…

But it happens so because we are tying to see the past sitting in the present, without considering the fact that we have underwent many physical, biological and psychological changes. In reality, those acts and moments could be normal for the then situations based on the relationships we had with others (I know a woman who called her ex-husband an “a**ho**”. I am sure that the very same person was ‘darling’ or ‘honey’ in the past. Now, there is no meaning in thinking ‘ I cant believe that I called him honey’. When situations change, our emotions and the way we react/respond or express too change…).

It looks like there was one Jay who sat with a doubtful mind when the year of the OX (2009 is year of the Ox, as per Chinese belief) started. That is what this unfinished one shows

Twelve years ago, when the
Year belonged to the Ox,
I moved in to this new city.
Was it doubt or was it things
Those were not certain? At least
My mind is doubtful now and
I know it is not uncertainty.
I might have looked for pals
And I might not have found anyone

Was it a doubt?

Doubt is a state of being unsure of something. Doubt arises when there is no certainty or there is multiple possibilities which again show uncertainty….we are not sure, we don’t know…we don’t think so…no factuality…

So?

Was it a fear? A fear of losing his pals? May be the then Jay did not want to keep such a thought in his mind since he knew that thoughts can manifest into situations. Or may be that Jay died before he could finish it…

Now, after the completion of 5 ‘Ox months’, it looks like it had some similarities with the Ox year of 12 years ago, as the doubtful Jay feared of.

People, situations…many things look familiar…

The wheel will continue to rotate….

An Abortion...

There are some religious people who have very strong views on abortion. Yes, strong anti-abortion views. This is a view just based on their faith/religion and not based on science. Why are they against abortion?

I own a book written by one such religious man on abortion. From that, what I understand is that his view (I guess it reflects the views of such groups) is that we do not have the right to take a life.

Dr. Tiller was one of the ‘abortion doc’s in the U.S. who was always under criticism. We can find lots of anti-Tiller sites on the net promoted by some faith groups. They describe his acts with added horror and color. It did not end on sites or pamphlets but landed in physical attacks too, many a times.

Dr. Tiller was a Christian, by all means. He was regular at church and he was the Usher in his church. As we can see, he is educated too (to read and understand a book or scripture).

Finally, the hardcore faith people won. They succeeded in killing him, the other day. After shooting, the shooter did not surrender to police, though he is ‘religious’ and follows ‘scripture’, but he ran away. He got caught, finally (by that time, he managed to travel 273 km).

What was his good deed? Did he save a life? He KILLED a human, he took a life. He created a widow. He made some fatherless. That too, when the victim was attending his church (and his wife was singing in the choir, when he was shot). May be next time they will kill the women who undergoes abortion too, though they did that at their own will. Who knows?

What an irony! If we happened to read ‘Thou shall abort the aborter’, we better re-check what we are reading, irrespective of our faith.

Yes, people can debate on abortion. But killing each other is not the solution here. That too if we believe in God. Even the God could feel ashamed when such an act done by his believer.

Well, just like any other religion based killing, religion won and humanity failed..

One more victim of the ‘opium’…

Racism in Australia

The racists in Australia attacked and killed Indians. The recent attack is just another one. Just because they have white skins, those guys think that they can pierce a screw driver into an Indian and laugh at him when he was crying aloud with pain.

It looks like the system in Australia supports such activities. I saw the CCTV recordings of one such act. Though there is such clear evidence, it was hard for the hi-tech police to nab them. Funny? Nope

When the Indian students protested, police filed case against them, calling it breach of peace. And the latest attack was from the police itself !! That tells a lot

A developed country doesn’t always mean that it has a civilized society...

Shame on you

Mind the Mind

What is the job/responsibility of the mind?

It does many things* but it is our thought factory…in most of us, it produces unwanted thoughts, most of the time. When we start meditating, the production reduces and finally stops…

*Mind splits into Buddhi(helps us to discriminate, judge and decide), Chitta (stores impressions), Manas (processing part), and Ahamkara (Ego).
